Work Location: Remote with regular site visits. Must live in the greater Seattle area.

Salary Range: $90,000 - $125,000

ORGANIZATIONAL OVERVIEW

At TIPS, our mission is to improve student outcomes and support teacher effectiveness by placing representative, culturally responsive tutors in classrooms.

Unlike other programs that rely on a set curriculum and approach, our model gives schools the flexibility to tailor the role of each tutor to meet the specific and evolving needs of their classrooms. This allows us to provide targeted support that addresses each school’s unique challenges.

The Executive Director (ED) will be the strategic and operational leader who advances this mission through visionary leadership, partnership development, and organizational stewardship.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Executive Director is the primary thought leader, spokesperson, administrator and fundraiser for TIPS. This role is responsible for executing strategic vision, cultivating a broad and sustainable funding base, and building effective internal and external partnerships for operational effectiveness. The ED reports to the Board of Directors and is responsible for leading a growing organization with integrity, innovation, and impact.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:

Strategic Vision & Leadership

  • Lead long-term strategic planning and implementation towards TIPS’s future success, aligned with mission and regional educational needs.

  • Guide organizational growth and systems development across operations, staffing, and programming.

  • Engage board, staff, and stakeholders in shaping and communicating a clear, inspiring vision.

  • Drive change management with a focus on sustainability, scalability, and equity.

Board & Governance

  • Collaborate with the Board to implement and update the strategic plan and develop tactical workplans to chart TIPS’ future.

  • Prepare Board agendas, reports, and strategic briefings in collaboration with the Board Chair.

  • Ensure legal and ethical governance by overseeing all corporate and compliance documentation.

Fundraising, Marketing & External Relations

  • Serve as the chief fundraiser and public representative for TIPS.

  • Direct the organization’s communications strategy to ensure consistent, mission-aligned messaging across audiences.

  • Lead a comprehensive development strategy for a diversified funding program, including individual giving, grants, events, and donor stewardship.

  • Cultivate relationships with donors, foundations, and community stakeholders.

  • Oversee grant applications, implementation, reports, and compliance in coordination with staff and contractors.

  • Host donor site visits, maintain accurate donor records, and oversee the development of the annual report.

Financial Stewardship

  • Develop and manage the annual budget with the Board.

  • Plan and allocate financial resources for sustainability and programmatic innovation.

  • Monitor financial performance, ensure internal controls, and supervise bookkeeping and accounting functions.

  • Oversee potential audit and tax filing processes, including the 990 and state nonprofit filings.

Staff Leadership & Human Resources

  • Model collaborative leadership, equity, and transparency across the organization.

  • Supervise and support the Program Manager and other staff.

  • Establish and guide personnel policies and HR procedures in alignment with labor laws and organizational values.

  • Provide annual performance structures for feedback and professional development opportunities.

  • Coordinate with school districts to ensure compliance with hiring and HR standards.

Program Oversight & Development

  • Cultivate and maintain school and district partnerships that enable program implementation.

  • Set outcome expectations and collect data and partner input to evaluate and refine program implementation, tutor training, and other service offerings.

  • Align program operations to organizational mission and respond to organizational stability, district needs and funding opportunities with program adjustments.

  • Ensure programs reflect TIPS’s standards, values and impact goals.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree; Masters in Education, Nonprofit Management, or Business.

  • Significant nonprofit leadership experience with fundraising, board management, and staff supervision.

  • Strong understanding of the educational landscape and classroom practices, particularly tutoring and public-school partnerships.

  • Technologically proficient (Microsoft Office suite, email, internet, social media (for marketing purposes).
